NBJOHN...I agree! Music is Art really needs to partner up with another event.

How do musical acts, dancers and other performers get selected to participate? There's a great variety of acts, but I was curious how people become part of the festival.

They ask for submissions from performers in the late spring/early summer.

Since the Elmwood Festival is about Community - There will also be a Community Celebration outside Lafayette Pres. Church on the Corner of Lafayette and Elmwood at 6 on Saturday night. Several churches will offer the service and there will be music interspersed and provided by the WNY Chorale, Breaking the Limits Ministries and Samuel Rivera, a Drum Circle and musicians from Lafayette and Unity Church. Bring a lawn chair and participate with others in your community.

Why would the Elmwood festival want to partner with Music is Art....it already has music and art. Music is Art should go back to the Allentown weekend, where there is no music. Music is Art should go to Delaware Ave, south of the Allentown Festival or to Lafayette Square. There are 250,000 people in that area on Allentown weekend. It totally makes sense. The city would help them do it.

elmwood99, where have you been? The city denied permits to MIA. The EF would be an excellent venue for them!

Just seems like the Elmwood festival focuses more on art in the community vs. the Allentown festival that brings many more people in from out of state. Also Allentown seems to have more crafts then art.... And we all know That Music is art......

    Just my opinion

The Elmwood festival _used_ to be about community. At the beginning, you had to be a local artist, local being apparently defined as Western NY. Now they take artists from anywhere, as I learned from studying the program for this year's festival -- Florida, Colorado...

Craftspeople who do the summer circuit of art festivals like Allentown are just adding this one to their itinerary. I lost a lot of respect for the organizers once I saw that they're accepting exhibitors from out of state.

Oh, and Music Is Art should pick a neighborhood that doesn't already have a major festival, like Grant Street.

Drive-by... Bike-by... Walk-by... lots of ways people go bye-bye in streets toward Grant, unfortunately.

Regarding MIA, I wonder if it would be possible for them to join forces with Taste of Buffalo? They could have the music not start start until Saturday evening after Taste booths close up around 7pm (that way, the noise would be a non-issue), or maybe starting it an hour before at 6pm wouldn't bug too many people.

The two events could share some costs for Saturday evening security, port-a-johns, etc.
