You could not be farther from the truth. Do a little research. Search for the AP story titled "Inspectors cite Buffalo Zoo in 3 polar bear deaths, suffocation of hyena" in google. It ran on the AP wire. You will see how many newspapers picked up the story. It ran here in the San Diego Union Tribune. It can also be found on ABCnews.com, CBSnews.com, Newsweek.com, the Boston Herald and a a couple THOUSAND places but who visits these sites or reads those newspapers. Yours is one of the most naive comments on this site in a LONG LONG TIME.
This is a BIG black eye for Buffalo. PETA is involved and like them or not they are a huge PAIN IN THE ASS if they are against you and they are against the Buffalo Zoo.
I think the Zoo should stay in Buffalo AND in its current location. I think Colvin Avenue should run south into the park and Jewett Ave should run west into the park. These two streets should meet in the middle of the golf course. Maybe not roads for cars but a walking trail and bike path. The land North and East should be given to the Zoo to expand. This is the best use for Delaware park.
Oh and if anyone says that would ruin the design that Olmsted created...I call BS. He never intended his parks, both Delaware and South Park to have golf courses. THAT IS JUST WRONG. It is not like these are great courses either....they suck. They golf course in Delaware park should be removed and the land returned to the general public. This would open access to this great setting for everyone not just the golfers. I am one myself so please refrain from the "golfers rights" argument.
