A lot of the Credit for the beach goes to Mike Wolasz and his crew at the Hatch. They have been successful in improving what has become a quality destination. I have been to a few parties at the Hatch and I think they do a great job there.

happyjack...As long as you bring up the Hatch, food prices there are a joke. 2 hot dogs, fries and a pop...$10. Another 2-3 bucks for a small cone and lunch costs you almost $15. I wish the city had control over the prices being charged there.
Congrats Buffalo...on the beach! KenS - I know what you mean, but I think it's hitting all of the hot dog stands this year....my husband & I got dinner @ Ted's one night...2 dogs, 2 small burgers (think Mickey D's size), an order of fries, an order of rings, and 2 very small milkshakes....nearly $22.00....the prices everywhere are getting crazy!

KenS - why do you wish the city had control of the prices? Its called capitalism. The Hatch charges that because you pay it. If you think its too expensive, don't buy the food. But price fixing is called socialism - we've tried it sporadically in this country and it doesn't work.
Ya its time for the hatch to experience some competition. Those prices are monopolistic. Time for a second vendor, even a hotdog cart would do.
Tony - You should know better than to say such things about the political friends of Buffalo Rising. It took them years to figure out how to finally make even this minuscule area of the waterfront accessible to the citizens of Buffalo. It took them years to figure out how to remove the blockades from the waterfront during the winter. And the list of mediocrity goes on and on and on and on and on and on...
Why are we congratulating these politicians. Afterall, this is what they are suppose to be doing! Their job.
If it wasn't for this website and a few concerned citizens pointing out the obvious opportunity for a beach, we would still be looking at a bunch of drift wood. People, this is not rocket science, we live on one of the nicest bodies of fresh water in the entire world and your politicians are only now beginning to realize it!?
We should have had beaches downtown and boardwalks years ago.
Put a starbucks down there and get it over with!
BRO - as a suggestion, if you don't "approve" of someones comments, just erase them.
There is no need to provide a list to describe the reasons why, i.e. {edit- slanderous, unsubstantiated nonsense} Just delete the comments and move on.
Also, Rising Damp provided some very good insight and experience much needed to this site. Why ban his priveldges? I didn't think he was that bad.
newell I can't believe u have become such a fucking softy on these teet ducking politicos! What happened to your balls and resilience??? ALLFIT you make sense, and that means these hippies will be erasing your comments in no time
TM, these guys said they would have the beach open by Memorial Day and they did. There are other issues in the city (like getting crosswalks on Elmwood or getting a skate park) where I have issues with the city. If they help us get a skate park next year then I'll congratulate them on that too. If that makes me a softy, so be it.
Newell, I'm disappointed they didn't add you to the conga line. I gnashed my teeth reading the Buffalo News coverage of this, this morning - the writer said "someone" suggested the idea to Councilman Davis. Well, we know who that "someone" is.
This beach has been there forever, and every year it gets cleaned out around this time. I don't understand why this is so newsworthy and deserving of a ribbon cutting.
