Elmwood is lacking a great Sabre's bar, like Colter Bay. Maybe this is it!

If there is a half-way reasonable happy hour, I will be there often.

Now when is the Place going to re-open? Because that would mean that I am one block closer to a public house.

Townline- Have you been to Fahertys? No food but they have one of the best Sabres game atmosphere around, I highly recommend it for games.

As long as they run it better than they do Average Joe's (in Amherst), I'm excited for this place to open up.

Yeah, I hate Faherty's for Sabres games. Not that Colter Bay isn't yuppified, but Faherty's just has too many people there that are not there to watch the game. They way the everything is situated in there, you have people constantly moving back and forth from the front door to the back bathrooms, pushing through the narrow area infront of the bar, where people are watching the game. I just get infuriated with the people who constantly push back and forth there.

God forbid someone go to a bar and try to get to the bar to order a drink. How about the sabres fans who just stand at the bar, take up bar space, and make it nearly impossible for anyone else to order a drink? If you don't want to be bumped stay home and watch the game...oh, and shame on those people for using the restroom while they are a a bar...seriously, what are they thinking?

mbhxam - woah, sorry to offend. I also apologize that Faherty's is not my type of bar to watch a game. Actually, I don't go there for games, does that satisfy you? I wasn't commenting on what I thought about the people who go there. It was a comment about how the bar is just not set up well for people who just want to watch a game. Its a great place to go out, but I didn't think so for a hockey game.

That was kind of my whole point. It would be great to have a bar in the area where it is a nice place to sit for a while and watch the game where you don't get constantly disturbed and the people at the bar aren't disturbing anyone else. Colter Bay is set up nicely where you can avoid most of the bar to get to the bathroom by going through the dining room rather than pushing through everyone on the way there and the way back. I have no problem with people who go to Faherty's, its just not set up well for people who want to relax and watch the game.

What exactly was so ridiculous about it? That I don't care for watching games at Faherty's and hope that this new bar is something I like better?

Another place to watch games would be great. Pearl St. is a favorite of ours but something closer to home would be a plus--a place we could walk to is even better. I agree with Townline about Faherty's though, I do like it there sometimes but the setup is pretty narrow, and is it me or do the bartenders completely ignore you for way too long? I never have a problem getting a drink anywhere else. It seems like they're always chatting with their friends instead of paying attention to the paying customers who are waiting for a drink. Maybe I'm not in the frat/sorority they cater to ;)

I agree with TownLine - Colter Bay is the best place to watch the games, they put the sound on too. It's like being there when a goal is scored. Glad to see Jimmy Mac will be alive again...

Terrible name... Jimmy Macs will never be the same unless you revisit the 80's Then again Buffalo is stuck in the 80s so im sure youll see the proverbial Bill Hajt and Mike Foligno jerseys as well as tapered Levis jeans, 1987 GMC Jimmys, Bills Zubas, Tinfoil stanley cups, and gold wigs...

worse than the Bucking Buffalo. How about somethnh without the name Buffalo in it... Cuz it'll be doomed. Call it Mimmy Jacs or Fat Daves or Jerry Korabs or Joe Fergusons or Rob Riddicks or just call it a place where alot of coke was done

I appreciate your post, TownLine, but I have to disagree that Colter Bay is a "great Sabres bar." Colter Bay has been taking advantage of its prime location for years to push sub-par food on to Buffalonians, cram folks in on St. Patrick's day for a fee at the door and place your credit card openly next to the cash register if you want to run a tab in full view of many employees instead of just swiping it and returning it to the owner like civilized places. It has great beers, no doubt, but the mens room in Colter Bay is an abomination with one urinal always shrouded in plastic and a single stall that you can' t hardly enter because it only opens inward and smashes into a wall restricting access. I honestly don't know how the place can keep its certificate of operation. I support Colter Bay only because of its location. When the new place opens up I hope people realize what they have been missing. Buffalo has no sports bar to speak of at all. I am embarrassed to say that Gowanda, yes Gowanda, New York, has the most superior sports bar in WNY. Its called POP's and its located in a fabulous restored red brick building with totally awesome flat screen Monitors throughout. If the The Thirsty Buffalo (completely queer, unimaginative name) looks anything like POP's in Gowanda then it will be a winner. And I hope the owners of colter Bay get a clue ablout their place and start rehabbing it a bit. It's actually physically nauseating at times in there.

Colter Bay, sub par food? we're not talking Olivers here... stick with wings or nachos and you'll be fine. BTW, most bars keep the credit card on the bar to run a tab...is that place on Chippewa, Devine's, a sports bar?

Not to mention that the kitchen employees at Colter Bay, who hang out by that back door on Allen Street for smoke breaks, sometimes like to use the word "faggot" at the passersby who they perceive to be gay.

Doc should stay in Gownada and out of Colter Bay. We have never expreience any issues at Colter. They have good pub food abd nice selection of beers plus feature sports on the tube Yes the bathrooms are beat up but it is a bar!! The great thing about another bar in Buffalo and on Elmwood is gives all of us more options. We should be happy anyone is willing to invest in Buffalo

I love Colter. I just ate there the other day and it's got great food. Not just the nachos and wings. Never been there for a game. Pearl St.'s not bad for a game depending on how busy it is. I thought almost all bars kept your credit card when you open a tab so that you can't run out on your check. As for a fee at the door on busy nights; its called smart business. I went in there for a beer during the art festival and the cover was a staggering $1. If you can't pony up the buck I'm guessing your not the kind of patron they want in there anyways.
