Cheers to Andiamo!

Cheers to Andiamo!

This past Friday I had the pleasure to eat lunch at Andiamo! for the first time. And I assure you that it will not be the last. There is no place like Andiamo! in the city - the restaurant reminds me of one of my dad's favorite places to eat in Boston called Joe's Bar and Grille. I think that what surprised me the most was the combination of historic pub atmosphere and some healthy menu items. While sitting in a Cheers-like atmosphere I ordered a hummus wrap - the last thing I expected to see on the list of menu items. I was actually surprised to find that the wrap was outstanding... how could a restaurant in old-world club-like atmosphere serve up a great hummus wrap packed with veggies? Then I remembered that the owners also run La Marina (on Hertel) - a successful restaurant that has become a staple for diners in North Buffalo.

I'm not sure what the total capacity of Andiamo! is, but by the time we were halfway through lunch the place was packed. I couldn't believe it... for such a big restaurant there was not an empty seat in the house. The prices on the menu were quite reasonable considering the surroundings. A roasted turkey panini only ran $5.95. And the steak and dandelion was a mere $9.95. The expensive looking decor does not mean that the menu is steep. This is the perfect place to bring a business associate or a date for soups, salads, sandwiches and sides (something for everyone). My friends who joined me were quite taken with all aspects of the restaurant. This is an excellent addition to downtown's food scene.

The restaurant can be found in the former Shayleen's restaurant (most recently Longfellows Restaurant)... the same building that accommodates the downtown Buffalo Athletic Club.
