Don't miss the Community Extravaganza Sunday, July 20 from 2PM to 6PM. This event is sponsored by Heart of the City Neighborhoods Inc. Heart of the City is a not-for-profit Community Development Corporation.
The Community Extravaganza is being held in celebration of Heart of the City's 10th anniversary and their rehabilitation of Plymouth Avenue and the Kleinhans neighborhood. "Heart of the City works to stabilize Buffalo's core communities bounded by Michigan Avenue to the east, Lake Erie to the south, the Niagara River to the west, and Porter Avenue to the north, through redevelopment, neighborhood stabilization, and affordable housing development," Fred Schrock of Heart of the City said.
In celebration of the group's efforts David Rivera and other celebrity grillers will be serving up hot dogs, hamburgers, and vegetarian fare. A Buffalo zoomobile will be available for children to pet zoo animals and Haley the Clown will be in attendance for balloon animals and facepaiting. "There will also be live music with several artists playing thoughout the afternoon and alternating ever half hour. Kenny Maggs a DJ who often appears at Nietzsche's and Ann Philippone, a classically trained pianist and vocalist are just two of the artists you can expect to see at this extravaganza," Schrock said.
Additionally, the highlight of the event will be a tour of Richard Waite architecture. The one hour tour will begin at Kleinhans on Symphony Circle and stop at Waite's home, White Brothers Livery Stable, and three other homes designed by Waite in the Lower West Side.
Buffalonians should attend this extravaganza because, according to Schrock, "It's the perfect summertime family event, the entire city is invited, and it's completely free." The event will be located on the block of Plymouth Avenue between Hudson and Pennsylvania Street.
The schedule is as follows:
2:00-4:00 PM - Guests can explore a Buffalo Fire Department truck
2:30-4:30 PM - Haley the Clown
3:30-4:30 PM - Richard Waite tour begins
5:00-6:00 PM - Zoomobile
