The Queen City Football Club (QCFC) is getting ready to start its soccer season on May 4th with their first match. It is a Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Region I match and the Blues will face some stiff competition from last year’s Region I winner, Danbury United from Connecticut.
The QCFC also has some exciting news this year. This will be their first season playing at All-High Stadium. Last year the team was stuck playing in Johnnie B. Wiley field while they waited for renovations at the stadium to be completed. This is the first year the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) team will have its own home field.
According to Ryan Knapp, head of public relations for the QCFC, “We’re in the process of getting a women’s division together.” Knapp says that the QCFC is busy laying down the groundwork needed to get the new division, dubbed the Lady Blues, into the Women’s Premier Soccer League. Also, according to Knapp they are still looking for a coach for the Lady Blues, but the new team could start playing as early as next year.
