Welcome to NIMBY Court

Don’t like what your neighbor is proposing for their property? Buy it. That is what just went down on Rumsey Lane. Sue Ann Simonin received City approvals to tear down a 1940’s ranch at 25-27 Rumsey (entry image) in anticipation of constructing her dream home last year. Her plans for the new residence ran into a buzzsaw of neighborhood opposition but finally received the necessary approvals to build in April. On Thursday she sold the site to an adjoining property owner. Price? A whopping $650,000.

Simonin purchased the property in June 2007, paying $237,500 for the 1,465 sq.ft. Rufus Meadows-designed home built in 1948. Her plans for a new, larger residence drew neighborhood angst who claimed the design was incompatible in height, scale, massing and materials of nearby homes. The existing house was demolished.

Thursday, Think Solutions, Inc., an entity owned by Robert B. Skerker, purchased the 70’ x 94’ property assessed at $150,000. Skerker, Chairman and CEO of Robinson Home Products, lives next door.
