A Pre-Valentine Wine & Chocolate Tasting

So, what are you getting your Sweetie for Valentine’s Day? Dinner and a movie? A cardboard heart-shaped box of chocolates? Maybe a new Maserati? (Yeah, in our dreams…)
It’s a tough choice--coming up with something new to do for Valentine’s Day. What if you could take your beloved on a chocolate tour? And, during that tour, a chocolate tasting and wine pairing experience?
The two of you (or more) will sample more than six types of chocolates and two companion wines. Afterwards, you can allow your loved one to select a favorite confection to take home.
It all happens on Tuesday, February 12th, between 5:00 and 8:00 pm at http://www.chocologo.com, 141 Broadway in the “heart” of Downtown Buffalo.
This event is a special fund-raiser for the Johnson Park Restoration Fund, an effort to revitalize our city’s first park, established in 1837 through a donation of land from Mayor Ebenezer Johnson. Just click on the link to find out more about the project and read various reports and studies on the importance of urban parklands and greenspaces.
After the tour, participants may also purchase Choco-Logo's Famous Nutcorn - freshly popped popcorn coated with buttery caramel, studded with whole nuts, then drizzled with dark, milk and white chocolate. The 12 oz tub will be sold for $10 with the fund receiving $5 per tub. Also on sale will be a 2.25 oz chocolate bar for $2 each with $1 going to the fund.
But, you better hurry - the tours of the factory last 30 minutes and the 7:30 slot is filling up fast. Tickets are a mere $20 per person and can be purchased through any WVRG Board member or you can call 716.440.1106 or e-mail http://jprestoration.blogspot.com and we’ll make sure you have your tickets in hand before the event.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.

Marilyn, I can't think of a better opportunity to say that I WAY HEART your big-hearted articles and comments on BRO - and wish you well with this incredible fundraiser for Johnson Park. You probably know that your Mayor Johnson was the brother of an early RaChaCha mayor, Elisha Johnson...

Yes, Rachacha, I do! Seems to have been in the bloodline. There's so much great history in both our cities. I have a tioe to Rochester, as well since I went to Nazareth Academy and East HS. My parents moved us there when I was in 7th Grade, but I had to come home to the Buff after living there, Charleston, SC, San Diego, and Eugene, OR. I still find reasons to go back to Rochester now and then, even if it's only for a ground round.
