ARTiculate: Beyond Western New York

ARTiculate is back! After a short hiatus the group has re-formed and is on track to bring some of the most artistically inclined people together to discuss the past, present, and future of art in the city. We have a fun agenda planned for this weekly podcast series, though we are always looking for input from our readers. What are the issues that are most important to local artists, galleries, etc.? Click continue (below) to listen to the podcast.
In this show (see below for podcast link), Claire Schneider, an Associate Curator of Contemporary Arts at The Albright Knox Art Gallery, attended and spoke with the people of ARTiculate about the Beyond Western New York event being planned this September. The scope of the gallery, as the most significant Buffalo visual art organization and its role as a resource to Western New York artists, is discussed on this podcast. Along with our podcasting regulars, Kenneth Payne, Rosaleen Marion and myself, Mollie Atkinson, we also invited David Granville along to impart his experience, as well as that of guest Sandra Bartz.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …

I think that this show has become a back slapper for the curators. They get the artists they show and are interested in into the "event". The brown noses get it. The art community in Buffalo is becoming more and more stagnant and redundant. Bringing in an outside curator is the only way to combat this form of nepitism and get a fresh view on the art in WNY.
The only work I sell is on my own. Not or rarely in a Buffalo "Gallery" by these so called curators who for the most part couldn't curate themselves out of a paper bag unless they hung it next to the other paper bag that is. I sell and get grants year after year and I'm basically snubbed by the galleries in WNY segregated to the members shows. I have been in the Albrights' WNY art show in the past so I'm not that bitter just annoyed. What woudl be great if all you curators got together and talked about curating.
Kudos to Articulate for doing these podcasts. It's refreshing anyway.
