Buffalo 66 Sk,termacht
On July 20th of last year I posted a story (actually a request) about a local motor scooter enthusiast who was looking for a space to open a shop in the city. The quest has been a long one in which the perfect showroom space was unfortunately not discovered. There is a silver lining to the story though. After searching high and low, the shop's owner, Percy, decided he better make due with a space that he currently used as a work space located at 10 East Oakwood just off Main Street. After clearing out the garage, Percy began to install shelving and added a new paint job to the interior. The location actually turned out to be better than expected and Buffalo 66 motor scooter shop recently opened its doors to the public.
Percy (photo left) has been working on scooters for ten years now. In that time he has mastered the art of two-wheel-retro-ride-reconstruction. Chances are that if you see a restored motor scooter zipping around Buffalo these days Percy has had a hand in its restoration. As a matter of fact, Percy has been busy working on rides for customers in Rochester and Toronto as well. He travels all over the country looking at Vespas, Lambrettas and everything in-between. He can look at a bike and tell you what is great about it and what to look out for. Percy has even been approached by a vintage European vehicle museum in Montreal to restore some of their prized possessions. It's pretty cool knowing that there is someone out there that is considered an expert in the motor scooter field... and it's even cooler knowing that the person is located in Buffalo.
Percy has a number of scooters for sale at Buffalo 66. Some are ready to drive out the door, while others await Percy's master touch. Nothing leaves Buffalo 66 without Percy's seal of approval. He works on these bikes all day long and prides himself on each scooteris unique performance and style. Currently, there is an original '72 vintage Lambretta for sale at $2899 and a newer 2002 Bajaj ready to go (he just sold the other two) for $1799. Next week he will most likely have another one ready... that's the way it works... you really never know what will be 'on display' when you walk into the Buffalo 66 workspace/showroom.
Percy speaks of the motor scooter community like most people would speak about their family. He travels throughout the summer visiting cities that host scooter rallies. Many of the people that he has met at the shows do the same... they travel in search of others that share a similar passion for these two-wheelers. The vintage scooter community is the tightest because they must rely on each other not only for information, but for parts as well. It's a labor of loveOe that is for sure. If you are interested in learning more about the scooter culture be sure to stop on over to Buffalo 66 Sk,termacht. Before you know it you might be knocking on Percy's door asking him to customize a gas tank or retrofit a set of handlebars. For those not interested in a vintage bike, Percy can land just about any newer model scooter as well. You want speed, he'll get you speed. You want a certain color? He can get you that as well. Most importantly, when you buy a scooter you know that Percy is right around the corner to take care of your bike. There are not a lot of places that have a neighborhood scooter mechanic to stop in to see at a whim when something goes wrong. It's nice to know that Buffalo 66 is in town to take care of the local (and not so local) scooter community.
Buffalo 66 Sk,termacht is located at 10 East Oakwood Place in Buffalo. (Near Greater Buffalo Savings Bank on Main Street) 716.316.3275

Though it may only be the fifth time since 1992 that the Albright-Knox Art Galley has increased its admission rate, the higher fee speaks to the changing face of our society and economy. To keep the gallery in good financial health, it is necessary to increase the price of a regular adult admission ticket from $10 up to $12. The new price will go into effect on January 1st 2009.
The director of the gallery, Louis Grachos, has said that due to higher costs in all areas of the gall …
French satire from the 1600's feels like falling asleep in high school english class. But classic French satire with a rock and roll band? That sounds better. We can thank Andy Liegl for this bold modernity on December 26th when his production of Such Foolish Affected Ladies opens at the Alt Theatre. The original play calls for violinists but this role has been liberally opened up to local band The Nepenthe. "I wanted an indie rock sound, something that my generation can click wit …
It’s funny how history seems to repeat itself. Florence Foster Jenkins was in the elite member of society, but terribly eccentric and utterly convinced that she was a great coloratura soprano – despite the fact that she couldn’t carry a tune for even a few notes. She even managed to hold a sold out concert, even though she couldn’t sing! Sound familiar? Remember William Hung?
Jenkins’ story happened over 50 years ago. She would hold annual recitals in the Ritz Carlton h …
What could be more perfect to spread the news about local artists at the Buffalo Indie Market than a literary magazine that features works from local artists? NOMAD is a new magazine set to debut in January 2009 that will feature writers, poets, photographers, artists, and designers from the area. Erica Eichelkraut, a freelance photographer, created NOMAD and is bringing it to the public. Since Eichelkraut is a part of the Buffalo Indie Market, it wasn’t long before a collaborat …

Cool, that's my neighbor! Boy, this makes me miss the funky Honda Elite 80cc scooter I had when I lived in San Francisco. And here, there are no hills!
Even if they are not vintage, scooters are big fun. (But don't forget your helmet! See craigslist.com for some.)

Percy has worked diligently to get Buffalo 66 up and running. Forgoing his own scooting pleasure to keep us all on the road. Percy takes care of my Stella at a moments notice. With fuel prices going to $3.00 a gallon for 87 octane, scooters are the answer. I topped off my tank yesterday and took a 50 mile ride to Chestnut Ridge and surrounding parts with three of my scooter friends and came home with half a tank to spare. A pure waste of gas on a gorgeous sunny day. But a fantastic mode of transportation that is becoming more and more popular. I ride Stella to work almost every dry day startin in March. Good location and a great scooter guy. Good luck Percy. Nice story.

I was wondering what that Buffalo 66 was. I do my laundry at Lake Effect and have seen the sign. It is exciting to start to get small businesses and people moving back to Main St. Also out for my own curiosity, is he from Buffalo und spricht Er Deutsch?

Well Buffalo 66 is up and running. Percy fixes and restores scooters. Soon he'll have a larger inventory as he is always on the lookout for one that will make a great ride for someone.
Recently the Buffalo News interviewed Percy (3+ hours) and then did a photo shoot. It ran on Sunday May 28th. Thinking the article should be informative about the Buffalo Scooter society.. A smattering of Vespa info....
The great photo had a small sample of the Buffalo group. Taken on a Wednesday mornig when most of us were at work. Well four out of 30.....
Her scooter is under consturction and is pistachio. The Vespa pictured is Christines(seated on it) and is mint in color.
The Buffalo News did a disservice to scooter society of Buffalo.
Newell please contact Percy and reinterview him for a real story of how Buffalo is combatting high gas prices and looking cool doing it.
See you at the Dyke March this Saturday...hopefully.
