Steven Heller is the art director of the NY Times Book Review and has authored dozens of books on graphic design and popular culture. One of his latest books covering international design world: The Design Entrepreneur: Turning Graphic Design Into Goods That Sell features 2 Buffalo based designers: Julian Montague and Richard Kegler.

The book surveys "the innovative entrepreneurial options a broad group of contemporary graphic designers have engaged in over the past decade, while also addressing the creative, fabrication and promotion issues necessary to bring unique products to the marketplace." The book features such design superstars as David Eggers of McSweeney's fame and Shepard Farey whose iconic "Hope" poster helped give a visual identity to the Obama campaign. Also included is Paul Budnitz of KidRobot whose limited edition toys can be found locally at Hero design on Allen St.

The appearance of Julian Montague's Stray Shopping Cart project shows the resonance and longevity of something many people may have seen as a one time prank art project. Richard Kegler of P22 type foundry gives a frank interview of how P22 started and grew into an internationally known maker of fonts. Overall, the book is inspirational in showing how art & design can mingle and even be successful!
