Buffalo MC Rally and Music Festival

Buffalo MC Rally and Music Festival

Story Options

Carmen Toromino wants to bring the four-year running Niagara Motorcycle Rally to Buffalo. For the past four years the successful rally has been held in Niagara Falls, attracting crowds up to 15,000 people. Now that's not that big when compared to bike rallies like Sturgis, but now that Niagara Falls is out of the picture, wouldn't this be perfect for Buffalo? Carmen has already scoped out the amenities at LaSalle Park, which he says are perfect for this sort of 3-day event. He has already begun talks with The City and hopes that they will agree that the underutilized LaSalle Park would be the perfect venue for this rally.

I met up with Carmen this morning so he could show me some of the planning details surrounding the MC Rally. "There's already a band-shell there," he told me. "I would arrange to have three different music events over the three days. The first day would be dedicated to Southern Rock, the second day would be all country music, and the final day would showcase blues and jazz. This would not just be a bike festival... this would be a music festival. And it's already established and ready to go. We just need a new venue and we figured that the Buffalo waterfront would be the best place to do it. As soon as we get the OK from The City, then we can circle a date. Only then can we can notify sponsors and vendors."

These are the types of events that can be big moneymakers for a city like Buffalo. The days of disruptive biker rallies have now been replaced showboating bikes, music... and camping if allowed. If you would like to participate in this year's Buffalo MC Rally, or just want to keep up to speed with the event (dates, times, sponsors, etc.), then follow this link for any future updates.

Could we ask that only bikes with legal pipes be allowed?

I welcome any visitors to Buffalo but I also enjoy the relative quiet of legal motorcycle and automobile exhaust systems.

Loud Pipes Save Lives......People don't look out for motorcycle but they do hear them. Having worked in the motorcycle industry, most of the loud pipes you hear are not illegal at all.

chris _h_23 loud pipes save lives? Is there proof of this or is it just an assumption? I have heard this contention is a myth.

And if it is true then pedestrians, bicyclists, and auto drivers could also make too much noise in order to attract more attention and not be hit by people not paying attention. Is that what we want - a streetscape dominated by 120 dB SPL noise makers for the sake of increased safety? When everyone makes more noise than is legal no one will take notice anyway.

I have friends and family with quiet stock pipes and they enjoy their bikes too. Is NewBuffalo correct that "loud pipes are what bikes are about"? Could be - for some. But legal bikes are the rule of law. Quiet in our City is the rule of law. I'm sure some non-stock pipes are acceptably quiet but everyone knows illegal pipes when they hear them.

Race cars are not allowed on our streets - they are relegated to race tracks. Illegally loud bikes could also find a home at tracks too.

DanielSack....they do definitely make drivers more aware of your presence. I think you need to take a step back, I didn't mean that everyone should rev their bikes up in your front yard, I was making a statement defending what I have noticed in my EXPERIENCE. Being a former motorcycle rider I noticed it immediately when I got louder pipes on my bike. Does it make everyone aware? Probably not but unless you ride motorcycles and are aware of all the people out there that don't look out for you then you really don't understand. That is the reason why I no longer ride today. I had 2 of my good friends killed by people not looking out...and they didn't have loud pipes either fyi. I don't agree that bikers should wind out their bikes as loud as possible on the city streets but I do think that loud pipes help, especially on the 290 when cars don't look in there mirror before changing lanes. They will hear the bike before they decided to hit you.

YES, it is a fact that when excellerating on the HIGHWAY that drivers can HEAR you when They can not see you. If your sound is illegal then you will be pulled over and fined by our police force. The police are here to "pull over and write fines to increase revenue", not to "protect and serve". They should put this on their vehicles. There are more police on the 290 then where we NEED them (east side?). I forgot, arresting criminals does not generate revenue, we need to pull over hard working americans driving a little too fast to get to work on time. Anyway MC riders should respect the area they are riding in.

Daniel Sack, If you like quiet bikes ride the one with pedals. I was in a bike wreck 20 years ago and broke my back..It took 17 years to be able to ride again, and yes I have loud pipes on my cruiser. It is like having a loud horn on your car or truck, especially with new vehicles having such sound proof cabins nowadays. I want to be heard when I may not be seen.I have had drivers glance in my direction and pull out anyway, so now I just crack the throttle and let them know I am there.. It definately makes more people aware of our presence..I'm not saying wake up the neighbors everytime you ride, but definatly let other drivers know that cars are not the only thing on the road. If loud pipes save one life, then they work!!!!! Thanks for your opinion, but no thanks. You are probably on your cell phone while driving, or playing your radio, should we make a law against radios...There are to many petty laws now..I don't want any more ways for our government to take my hard earned cash..In my opinion there are to many whiners in the world, and you seem to be one of them...
