Ciao chow

If you've been waiting for chow chocolate on Main Street to open the wait is almost over (see original post). chow has secured all of the licenses and permits that it needs to open its doors on Monday. I stopped in to check on the recent build-out progress a couple of times and am happy to report that the place looks great. Not only does it look great, the sweet selections are truly incredible. One look around the business and it is clear that the owners have done their homework. The edibles are out of this world. From handmade nougat bars to chocolate high heel candies... and don't miss the chocolate covered crisp treats and the chocolate dipped biscotti... even the jelly candies are made with real fruit juice.
Co-owner Scott Wisz told me that he and Jaclyn are introducing nine different coffee drinks at Monday's opening. And of course the handheld painter's pallets will be available to carry your sweet selections back to the comfy lounge chairs. The time and effort that went into the offerings are truly impressive. This is a retail business combined with a production facility, so there will always be plenty of activity going on inside. There will also be new things to taste and sip all the time. Make sure that you stop in and check them out next week.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.

This place looks great so far, wish them the best. And the empty lot across the street is an eyesore.

Gaustad: That lot is controlled by a Cleveland based developer with some Buffalo properties in his portfolio. He has had plans to build condos here, which is purportedly why he insisted on demolishing the Vernor. However, I haven't heard anything new in quite a while.
Congrats on the new business! Look forward to stopping in.

I visited Chow Chocolat today for the first time - very nice! I like the ambiance and the chocolates are superb! I would put them on par with the artisan chocolates that I've had from Lesley's Life is Sweet. Exotic flavors (Coconut Curry, Habanero Mango) or just plain 64% cacao dark chocolate, they are all great. As you may tell if you visit there, they are still in the early stages of being open. There is lots of floor space left to expand into (for the baked goods, I assume). I am fortunate enough to work just blocks away, so this will be a favored lunchtime spot. (I also am beginning to notice a few other very nice new businesses opening in the same stretch of Main Street; a very welcome trend!) If you get the chance, please support them as Buffalo definitely needs more businesses like this downtown.
