Coming Soon: The Jenny Shop

Coming Soon: The Jenny Shop

Story Options

In just a couple of weeks downtown Buffalo will see the grand opening of The Jenny Shop. I spoke to boutique-owner, Jen Hemmingway, about the pending opening. The store is coming together,” she told me. “The shelving is in for the most part and many of the lines are coming in. I can’t wait to take the paper off the windows.” When I last spoke to Jen, she was not able to tell me about many of the lines that she would be carrying… today it was a different story. “We have something for all age-groups and styles,” she started. “For example, there’s Pure and Company for women’s business and leisure, Mac and Jac for the ‘thirty-somethings’, Silver Jeans for the younger girls, Atelier career wear, ready to wear Lily dresses and skirts, Y.A.S.B. 100% silk kimono dresses, Lui jackets, and Chalet Ideas urban contemporary… I’m really watching my price points while not skipping on quality and style at the same time.”

Not only is Jen stocking up on the outfits, she’s also looking at delivering cool accessories to go with them. “I’m really excited about the Kitten handbag line (made locally) and Stephanie Robb line of jewelry (also made locally). We’ll be carrying Latico Leather Company purses and business bags, Tolani Collection scarves… and if all goes well this year I plan on expanding to men’s clothing in the not-too-distant future. The storefront is just what I have been looking for… it’s brand new, there are big marble window displays, and there is a lot of activity in the Ellicott Square Building.”

I asked Jen what else she liked about being downtown and she told me that she was very excited to be located near Chop Chop and Globe Market. She also said that the Charlie the Butcher (located inside the building) was a big draw to the building for lunchtime traffic. There’s even a café across the way. The grand opening will take place March 11th. From then on, the boutique will be open Monday thru Friday from 10:30am to 5:50pm. There will also be special appointment hours in the evening and on weekends.

The Jenny Shop is located at The Ellicott Square Building 295 Main Street Suite A (easy to get to by Metro Rail).

Phase out the offices in the Ellicott Square lobby and create an indoor mall to replace the Main Place mess a block away. Good luck Jen- I hope you are the first of many downtown.

The hours seem a little off. I was thinking maybe 830-630 to catch the early and late crowds at work. Otherwise this seems like it will be a test case for retail shopping downtown once again. Its located in a good area with good traffic. Best of luck to you.

Brilliant Jen! I wish you the best of luck. My husband and I are in the Warehouse Loft Building at 210 Ellicott. Loving downtown, but needing shopping. Hopefully you are the start of big trend. Perhaps you would consider a few hours on Saturday to maximize the potential of local shoppers along with office shoppers. Clearly there is a huge market of Canadian shoppers who would love to go directly downtown, stay downtown, eat downtown, enjoy theater and sports. As the spring and summer near, and people are more willing to walk outside, I hope that you will find great success.

At least open on Saturdays to get the downtown visitor crowds and those who work downtown during the week who can't make it your store except on the weekend. I know, when I worked downtown, I wasn't able to get much shopping done because I would rather Eat on my break than starve and sometimes had to stay in the office till 6pm or later and all the downtown stores are closed by then. So, being open on the weekend isn't such a bad idea, Jen.

What about closing mid day (2-4) so that you could extend in the evening?

I dunno, throwing out ideas because anyplace not open past 5 is rather impossible for most people to conveniently get to.

Now there is one upscale mens' clothing and one upscale women's clothing store downtown. Very exciting. its not a lot, but its a start! Good luck, Jen!

AvaRouge - I was thinking the same think. Looking at the picture above, ES could be a great shopping destination for higher-end mens and womens clothing. I can see the Ultimate Mens shop moving in here. I wish her only the very best and will be steering my fiancee here (though on a small budget!).

Will there be any free parking with purchase?

I believe Jen picked these hours because that is when people are downtown and in the ESB. If she had made hours after 5:30 she would have been criticized that she was missing the business crowd and that "no one" is in downtown Buffalo after 5pm.

We really need to promote Shopping in Downtown on the weekends again. It's unreal to only have these businesses open during the week 9-5 while everyone is working, makes little scense when all they get are the lunch crowd (if that).
