Custom High-Riders

Custom High-Riders

Story Options

Jason builds bikes, and not your everyday bikes. We caught Jason cruising down South Park Avenue this afternoon, and as we drew closer to him, we all pointed out his custom, tricked-out ride. The custom-creation was sort of a hybrid between BMX and fold-able travel bikes. We knew right away that whoever the rider was, he probably built the thing himself

Not only does Jason build these bikes for himself, he also builds custom jobs for select customers. “I like to piece together parts from different bikes and get them to work,” he told us. “I like to talk to the customer to see what he or she is looking for. Then we figure out where to track down the different pieces. I usually charge around forty-five bucks to put one together… it all depends on the parts that the rider wants, and where they are going to come from.”

In-between building these rides, Jason partakes in events like wedding raids (with the Keystone Cops), and will be entering a Delaware Avenue parade on Memorial Day (also with the Keystone Cops). Regardless whether you end up ordering a custom bike or not, look for some of Jason's creations cruising around the city this summer. To find out more about ordering a High-Rider, call 716-578-8611.

A year or two ago I saw a dude on one of these high-riders downtown. Must have been Jason or one of his customers.

Three questions: Hhow do you mount and dismount? What do you do at red lights? Why aren't you wearing a helmet?

I saw someone just yesterday on one of these bikes on my way back from the laundromat and thought, now that is a good way for drivers to actually pay attention to you!

Can someone tell me what a wedding raid with the Keystone Cops is? I have some friends getting married next year and it sounds like it could be fun!
