Development Update: Artspace

Construction on the Artspace project located at 1219 Main Street in Buffalo's Midtown neighborhood is moving along at a rapid clip. The sidewalk along Main Street has been removed and the ground floor has been gutted to make room for retail spaces and the lobby. Through the windows on the upper floors, one can see that framing for the individual live/work lofts is continuing. Around back the first floors of the new live/work four-plexes are framed out awaiting their second floors.
In total, Artspace Buffalo will contain 60 live/work artists lofts, 36 units in the Buffalo Electric Vehicle Company building, and 24 units in 6 four-plexes located behind the building. There will be almost 10,000 sq.ft. of retail space located on the ground floor along Main Street which will be leased to arts organizations and arts-friendly businesses. Leasing applications for prospective artists will begin being accepted in the Spring. Artspace Buffalo's website can be found here.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.

I wonder what will happen to the attached low rise post office wing.

The post office and meth clinic are a separate building and still owned the previous owner of the artspace building. There is also underground parking with the PO building. The PO still has a lease for a number of years. So bottom line is nothing is happening with the Post Office, it will continue to serve the public for some years to come.
