Fox Star Fitchner's Buffalo 101 Blog

Story Options

William Fichtner, star of Fox's Prison Break, spent some time growing up near Buffalo. Fichtner was born in Long Island, but attended Cheektowaga's Maryvale High School and was in town long enough to develop a deep affection for his hockey team of choice, the Buffalo Sabres, whom he blogs about here.

In his blog, welcoming people in for the Sabres/Islanders game he mentions area favorites such as the Anchor Bar, Chippewa. He goes further to mention Jack's Place, Duff's, Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, and suggests visitors pick up a Gusto to get them around.

True, his treatment of the area points out the food and tourist draws we've grown to think of as pedestrian and ho-hum compared to the rest we have to offer, but we can't forget the treat these wings, pubs and Falls are to people who don't have them in their backyard. Let's not be jaded.

He also cautions folks a few times to dress for the cold; long johns are never a bad idea this time of year. By the end of the post he waxes nostalgic about family, a great Dolphins playoff in Rich Stadium with a slushy beer--YUM!--and ties it up with a promise to write about regional specialty items in an upcoming blog.

Born in Long Island, rooting for the Sabres. This Fichtner guy is all right.

    Elena,

    Nice find...

His piece in a lot of ways reminds us of why Buffalo is cool...sometimes we do overlook the...

food and tourist draws we've grown to think of as pedestrian and ho-hum

Buffalonians need to be reminded that they are cool as well...Buffalo is well...Buffalo...sometimes we need reminders from people who have moved away that we ain't got it so bad...

"If you don’t like one bar walk 100 yards…there’s another one. "

Haha, that doesn't sound very close. I think a more appropriate estimate would have been something akin to, "If you don't like one bar, walk next door....there's another one."

This guy has had an interesting career. He's been a character actor for the most part., and usually as a not so good guy. Recently though, he's had lots of work whether it's as the strange sheriff in ABC's one year series, Invasion, or as the repulsive agent in Prison Break. I thought he was great in Black Hawk Down. Elena, as a future proile, can I suggest Jessie Martin from Law and Order and Rent the stage and movie versions. I understand that he's around Buffalo occasionally, doing community work or, sadly, having all his luggage stolen from his rental car. I've also heard that he went to high school with Ani DeFranco lthough I don't know that for sure.

Did someone remove the plastic from that wax figure before taking that shot, or is this guy frozen solid from his wintry Buffalo bar-hopping?
