Funkfest: The Rick James Memorial Concert
What a blast! To be back at LaSalle Park for an outdoor concert? And a tribute to Rick James no less. That's where we ended up after Brewfest... I mean after the Buffalo Niagara Thunder motorcycle rally. Even after a day filled with stellar events, I was completely transfixed by Funkfest. It was so cool to see hundreds of people hanging out in front of the underutilized band shell (first BirdAir structure installed downtown). I could hardly believe the news when I heard that there was going to be live music there. I hope that this venue can one day become the place that the Junior League association intended it to be.
What made Funkfest even more special was the crowd. Everyone brought down lawn chairs, umbrellas and funky tents. It was colorful and there was the smell of barbecue in the air... it was exactly how I imagined a concert at LaSalle Park should be. There were even vendors there selling food and sundries. Congratulations to everyone who pulled off this concert - it gives me hope that LaSalle will one day be known as an outdoor live music venue.

My Favorite Buildings
This house on Richmond Avenue is very unusual for Buffalo. It stands out among its wooden neighbors not only in material but also in detail and form. Buffalo is overwhelmingly constructed of wood with brick coming in a distant second as a material. Stone houses are very rare. Also rare is the Palazzo styling and shape of this house. The Wait is Almost Over - BR's New Site
As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.

My frustration this summer with this Buffalorising site is that they reveiw many events after the fact, that I would have liked to attended. Can you create a better calendar system for these types of groups or organizations to post there event so many of us have an opportunity to attend them.

buscemmj, we try to get most of the events coverage days before they take place, hence many of the links that we provide within the event posts. But with events like Funkfest, we are sometimes notified the day of... which means that the only thing that we can do is to try to cover it. Hopefully next year we'll get a heads up a few days prior.
