Garden Walk Beautification Grant Applications Due by December 31st

Story Options

Garden Walk Buffalo is one of the nicest, newest things to put Buffalo on the national map. The largest garden tour in the U.S., with more than 300 urban gardens, Garden Walk is once again looking to fund beautification projects for spring/summer 2009.

Preference is given to neighborhood beautification projects by block clubs and community garden projects, and this is a perfect time to start planning. Award amounts are based on the overall project cost - that must include matching funds from government, private contributions or volunteer sweat equity.

"Garden Walk Buffalo is committed to providing further benefit to neighborhood beautification projects within the area of the annual walk," said Jeffrey Tooke, Garden Walk Buffalo treasurer. "Since the projects have been so successful, we wanted to once again provide funding for the community garden and other beautification projects in the neighborhoods."

Visit here for a list of garden projects Garden Walk Buffalo has helped to fund in the past through Beautification Grants.

Groups and projects must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

* The group, and project, must be located from the Peace Bridge to Main Street and Erie Basin Marina to the Historical Society Building.

* The project must include matching funds, for at least the award amount, either from government, private contributions, volunteer time, or other contributions.

* The project must be related to gardening and/or beautification, be community- and neighborhood-oriented, and cannot be to the benefit of an individual's particular garden or property. Commercial properties are not eligible.

* The project must be visible from the street.

* Projects must be completed by Garden Walk 2009 (July 25th & 26th).

Applications are available at www.GardenWalkBuffalo.com. Submit the application as per instructions on the form by December 31, 2009 to qualify.
