Gut Job On Porter
Here's one of those examples of a house looking just as bad on the inside as it does on the outside. This (see photos) is the interior of Gian Franco's new purchase on Porter Avenue. A team from Tanner Remodeling and Construction set up shop there this morning in order to plan out the project. First they lit up each of the rooms, and now they're starting to clear the debris. Needless to say, all of the radiators, mechanicals and pipes have been stripped from the property, leaving a blank slate to start from scratch.
Yes, it may be in bad shape mostly because the second floor is entirely burned out... but there is hope as well as good findings. It did turn out that an enormous attic will be converted into an additional loft unit. Some of the checkerboard wood ceilings are in good shape too. I asked Scott Tanner (General Contractor) what his thoughts were regarding the condition of the house and he reflected that it was not totally uncommon to come across a house in this shape. He did say, "Rarely does an owner actually want to restore a house that's this bad off. Most of the time they either knock it down or put a little money into it and rent it out to section 8... we're starting to look at more houses in the city to buy and rehab too."
Even though this house will be rehabbed from the ground up, it will be a huge assett to the neighborhood when it is completed. For history on this project click here.

My Favorite Buildings
This house on Richmond Avenue is very unusual for Buffalo. It stands out among its wooden neighbors not only in material but also in detail and form. Buffalo is overwhelmingly constructed of wood with brick coming in a distant second as a material. Stone houses are very rare. Also rare is the Palazzo styling and shape of this house. The Wait is Almost Over - BR's New Site

WE NEED A CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD. NO WAIT, WE NEED 10 CITIZENS OF THE YEAR!
No I dont want it to be some kiss ass tool to reward diversity or patronage or some political ideology.
No Buffalo needs an award simply for citizenship and civics for those who made the tough decision, through bravery and sacrifice, contributed to our city.
These guys need to be honored .... for their building restoration is going to keep this neighborhood intact, livable and stable.
(I wonder who and what is going to happen when they want to demolish acres of land to expand the Peace Bridge Plaza....personally I think thats going to be very ugly)

Wondering how this wooden house can have an apartment in the attic, when a house almost directly across the street (for which I have done research) is specifically banned from "any occupancy of the 3rd floor" . Not complaining, just wondering.
