Handsome Jack ~ Heat Seeker

Welcome to Handsome Jack's new CD, Heatseeker.
I became associated with Handsome Jack watching live video from a performance at Sherlock’s in Erie, PA. It instantly reminded me of the Aud. You remember the Aud? Buffalo Memorial Auditorium in downtown Buffalo? Just . . .like . . . that. My chest began to reverberate with the ferocity from the bass and drums. The dual guitars made me rise from my color-coded seat. That first wail of vocals raised my fist in the air. Handsome Jack transported me to that hard rock 60’s & 70’s scene. The only difference is this is 2008. This four-piece powerhouse has managed to take that sound, own it, reinvent it and transform it into their latest CD, entitled, Heat Seeker.
Handsome Jack consists of: Jamison on lead guitar and vocals ~ Joey on bass/vocals ~ Rick on guitar and Owl on percussion and vocals. Heat Seeker is an 11-track monster loaded with demonic guitar riffs, pounding drum skins and deep-throated growls. The artwork on the cover is reminiscent of concert posters from Cream, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane.
The 2nd track on this CD, Love Machine, starts with a mean bass line and a bluesy guitar riff with percussion pulverizing its way to a wrecking ball of vocals. The title speaks for itself. Listening to this tune is parallel to hearing AC/DC jam with Cream.
Blood, the 4th track is a classic in your face anthem. With lyrics like: “Well . . . I want your blood . . . I need your blood . . .” you know these guys don’t mess around. Musically, you can catch influences such as Black Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix.
The title track, Heat Seeker, is a down South blues monument. There is a brazen raunchy element that is to be admired in percussion, twin guitars and vocals when you hear: “Better watch out tonight . . . Yeah, I gotcha in my sight . . . “ The four of them are collective, unabashed and intoxicating. This one will get you hopping onstage to join the guys in shooting this tune out and over the heads of everyone on the floor.
Brown Water is a wicked little ditty with acoustics and harmonization. This is a tune about heartbreak, drinking and being down in the dirt. Life as it is, as good as it gets. The strumming here is phenomenal. The Rolling Stones must be proud.
To contact Handsome Jack, go to http://www.myspace.com/handsomejack. They have played Buffalo to Boston to Texas. Go see them LIVE it is a MUST. Catch them on You Tube and you will see what I mean. Handsome Jack is breathing life back into music. Exactly what this entire scene needs.
Grab their CD; I need to get a new subwoofer.

Though it may only be the fifth time since 1992 that the Albright-Knox Art Galley has increased its admission rate, the higher fee speaks to the changing face of our society and economy. To keep the gallery in good financial health, it is necessary to increase the price of a regular adult admission ticket from $10 up to $12. The new price will go into effect on January 1st 2009.
The director of the gallery, Louis Grachos, has said that due to higher costs in all areas of the gall …
French satire from the 1600's feels like falling asleep in high school english class. But classic French satire with a rock and roll band? That sounds better. We can thank Andy Liegl for this bold modernity on December 26th when his production of Such Foolish Affected Ladies opens at the Alt Theatre. The original play calls for violinists but this role has been liberally opened up to local band The Nepenthe. "I wanted an indie rock sound, something that my generation can click wit …
It’s funny how history seems to repeat itself. Florence Foster Jenkins was in the elite member of society, but terribly eccentric and utterly convinced that she was a great coloratura soprano – despite the fact that she couldn’t carry a tune for even a few notes. She even managed to hold a sold out concert, even though she couldn’t sing! Sound familiar? Remember William Hung?
Jenkins’ story happened over 50 years ago. She would hold annual recitals in the Ritz Carlton h …
What could be more perfect to spread the news about local artists at the Buffalo Indie Market than a literary magazine that features works from local artists? NOMAD is a new magazine set to debut in January 2009 that will feature writers, poets, photographers, artists, and designers from the area. Erica Eichelkraut, a freelance photographer, created NOMAD and is bringing it to the public. Since Eichelkraut is a part of the Buffalo Indie Market, it wasn’t long before a collaborat …

I really really love these guys.
If you've never caught them on stage, you are missing one hell of a show. No matter what, when they play in Buffalo, I can guarantee you won't regret it. Their stage presence is lively, their audience consistently active, and they'll always draw you in to the point where you never want their set to end. It's an incredibly fun experience that'll have you dancing in your boots until 3am.

I've known Handsome Jack for a long time. They're not only talented musicians, they're also really nice people. They don't act like arrogant rock stars, they're very approachable and they love their fans.

ThatThThat's good to know that they don't act like rock stars. Every time I see Bono or Dave Grohl down at the Mohawk they won't even give me the time of day.
