Jenny’s Clay House on Hertel

Jenny’s Clay House on Hertel

Story Options

There’s a ‘paint your own pottery’ studio opening at 1599 Hertel. As far as I know, this is the first of its kind in the city. These types of studios offer ‘greenware’ for purchase. From there you choose what colors you want and then sit down with brushes and water and get to work. Once your colorful masterpiece is done, you say goodbye to the piece and come back in a week. While you’re gone, the employees take your bowl, or pitcher, or anything else that you decide to paint, and carefully place it into the kiln where it is fired. And as for the pottery drying in the sun? Well, you probably couldn't find a better place in the city judging by the size of the building's windows.

These types of businesses are great if you have kids. Hertel is a family friendly street, so I would imagine that a place like this would be a great fit. It’s nice to know that a place to have kids parties will be around soon (late August /Early September). Rainy days are the perfect days to spend quality time together painting… it’s a nice alternative to playing videos and watching movies all the time. Then we’ll keep you posted on the opening as time goes on.

this is great! pottery really fires me up! get it?

really tho, im glad to see the diversity of Hertel business continue to expand, and a in a previously unoccupied building to boot! too bad it might be one of the ugliest in the city. oooof!

but perhaps that very different look is appropriate for a venue like this. i dont know. but anyway, welcome to the hood!

Nice. My 4 year old loves these places. For her to make Christmas presents for the grandparents last year we had to schlepp out to Williamsville. Not only does that drive bum me out, but it will be nice to have another reason to keep the money in the city. Now if a Premier Gourmet type store opened here I'd have no reason to go north of Kenmore Avenue.

    "pottery really fires me up!"

Q - What do you call that feeling when someone makes a terrible pun about ceramics?

    A - Clay Achin'

yahoo! we used to make trips to the shop out on evans, but i hate the drive. this is great for kids! bryant street art studio does a similar program for adults (i think you can even bring your own wine), but with kids, this is a great opportunity!

WHY did somebody have to screw up a dignified old house to look like a UPS or FedEx drop-off box? Grotesque building.

There is a paint your own pottery on the edge of Kenmore/Tonawanda on either Elmwood or Millitary. It's awesome. We recently had a Bachelorette night out there and it was fabulous.
