Manhattan Pizza Opens

It’s been about six months since we covered the then soon to open Manhattan Pizza at Delaware and Chippewa. It was shortly after that post that The City threw a few 'implementation surprises' into the project… surprises that resulted in an a rather lengthy unexpected delay. If you look on the bright side, the delay gave owner Besnik Dalsti time to reexamine the menu and add items like pizzettas to the list of offerings. It also allowed the restaurant opening (this past Monday) to coincide perfectly with the onset of spring weather. When I stopped in after work yesterday, the two patio-style doors were cranked open and a young couple was enjoying a pizza while watching the activity outside. Soon there will be a sidewalk patio that will turn the front eating area into a small indoor/outdoor dining spot. In the back there is an additional dining room that has the capability of seating up to forty.
If you had asked me, I would have thought that the seating for forty would have been overkill. Apparently that is not the case. “Yesterday the dining area was full,” Besnik told me. “And today was crazy.” I asked Besnik how a new pizza place could be so busy in its first three days of opening... and I also wanted to know what the favorite selection was. “The people walking by have been checking in to see when we were going to open,” he said, "Word of mouth is also very effective in this area. Our best selling pizza has been the 'Sirloin Steak with Damned Hot Peppers'.” Other items that caught my eye on the menu were Chicken Jalapeno and Cream Cheese Wantons (not on my diet), and the Chopped Clams, Romano Cheese and Capers (pizzetta made to order). Actually, all of the pizzettas looked mighty tasty. I did manage to try a slice of what I believe was the Villa Grande (onions, fresh mushrooms, pepperoni, green peppers). I really enjoyed the slice even though I had just come from eating a very late lunch. On my next visit I’m going to go on an empty stomach and try one of the personal pizzettas... or one of the strombolis. Of course there are plenty of other options to choose from including subs, paninis, wraps, soups, wings, fingers, salads, calzones, pasta dishes… and a few different desserts to choose from as well.
Manhattan Pizza offers take out, eat in and delivery. Stop in and grab a menu to take back to work with you (catering, parties, and meeting room available). Remember, these guys are also open on Saturdays (opens 11am) along with Mon thru Fri (opens 10am). Give them a call (716) 842-1986, or stop on in at 244 Delaware Avenue (near the corner of Chippewa).

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …

Can't wait to check it out. The slices look good in the pic. It's nice to finally have some NY style options around town. Are they gonna tend to the needs of late night drunken Chip-Strip revelers?
Though it will be hard to beat the new Joe's NY Style Pizzeria at the corner of Amherst & Grant. They are the new king of NY style pizza in Buffalo. Makes Zetti's (my previous favorite) look like cafeteria fair. So good that I'm gonna have to up my cardio regimen to get a weekly dose.

I miss the Shebeen. I remember eating a pizza on the patio there late one friday night. We ordered it and had it delivered so as not to interrupt the drinking. I have a pic of Newell eating pizza. A bit of spooky foreshawdowing perhaps?

TownLine.. yeah they took over Flappy's not sure what happened to them the signs went up for renovations / opening their second location and never came down.
Always good to have more pizza options, do they deliver? Or is this a must go there kind of place. Still looking for a decent delivery place that will come to Allentown.

Ahhhh, the Shebeen. Good times without a doubt. In my mind, the occupant of that space will always be a let down after the Shebeen...but such is life. As far Flappy's goes, I liked the concept - traditional Buffalo food. The real problem with that place was that (a) the food wasn't that good (b) they tried to replicate the feel of a big plastic menu chain [why??]

The best nights of my life were spent playing darts and drinking kool-aid shots compliments of Wayne.

Damn- thats a good pizza.
Just left there I have to say the place is impressive. The dining room was big, very nice especially for a pizza joint. The staff was extremely friendly.
I had to start with cheese and pepperoni, tho it was tough seeing some of the others the chicken fajita as well as the veggie pizza looked amazing. The pic above does these pies no justice. The prices are right on and the selection is great.
I see this place doing very well. Word of mouth is going to be key- send some pies to the bartenders up and down chippewa they will do the rest for you. Not to mention the hampton is right there as well as many office buildings. I thought I overheard a staff member saying they were open until 4am last night (friday) I hope thats the plan for anyday chippewa is busy.
Good Luck

We finally have a p;ace to rival any of the "Ray's" in NYC. Now, believe me, I love my Mister Pizza, but sometimes I have a hankering for a good NY-styled slice and this IS the place - and right around the corner, too. As for delivery, I asked and thye said next week.

Just had lunch here today. The pizza is definitely the best NY style I've had here in Buffalo. Crust was just right.. thin, yet crispy. Sauce and cheese were delicious. Definitely my new favorite.
