Movies on the Meadow: Summer in Delaware Park

With so many free outdoor activities this summer, it seems that Buffalo really does try to make the most of the season. "Movies on the Meadow" is the Parkside Community Association's contribution to the calendar of events, offering free films for the third year in a row. The Parkside Lodge in Delaware Park hosts the event for the next three Saturdays in July, projecting films outside on July 7, July 14 and July 21. In order to provide a diverse assortment of films, Movies on the Meadow offers Secondhand Lions on July 7, Dial M for Murder on July 14, and Akeelah and the Bee on July 21. This unique selection of films combines Texas, Alfred Hitchcock and a Los Angeles spelling bee, creating a cinematic triumvirate not to be missed.
Tomorrow night's film (photo) features Michael Caine, Robert Duvall and an early Haley Joel Osment. A coming of age story about a city boy who visits his eccentric uncles in Texas, Secondhand Lions is a film for the whole family. The Buffalo Olmsted Conservancy will sell concessions in order to sweeten the deal, providing candy and popcorn to snack on throughout the film. Beginning at dusk, bring your coziest chair or best blanket down to the lawn of the Parkside Lodge in Delaware Park, and enjoy the summer evening with a free film.
Note: In case of rain, the event will take place inside the Parkside Lodge.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …

Hi Annie; great post and happy to know about this--thank you! As I am not sure, when able, might you tell, which building is the Parkside Lodge and/or how does one find the film area within the park?
