Rock Harbor Village Bike Bash July 5th

On July 5th from 2pm-8pm Rock Harbor Village will be hosting an event that will raise money for bike-friendly activities in Buffalo. The event will feature a number of community organizations that have made a commitment to Buffalo biking. The list includes Buffalo Blue Bike (bike co-operative) and Verve Dance Studio (Shane's breakdancing studio). A series of bands will be performing including The Mom and Dad Parade, Bev-Beverly, Fashion Expo 1990, Sleeping kings of Iona and Besnyo. The event organizers are hoping that people consider arriving on bikes, as the purpose of the event is to promote cycling in the WNY area. Food and beer will be served, and it is expected that there will be 'green' demonstrations and a possible tree carving in-between the music line-ups. People are also welcome to arrive via canoe or kayak since the venue is located along the Scajaquada Creek (corner of Niagara Street and Tonawanda).
Rock Harbor Village is attempting to become one of the more unique outdoor music and event venues in the city. Saturday will include both electronic and acoustic performances against a backdrop of old industrial Buffalo. Rock Harbor Village is the future site of a student village and a multi-faceted indoor/outdoor recreation facility. Money raised on Saturday will come from beer sales - the event is free and open to the public. Food sales (veggie burgers and pastries) on that day will go toward benefiting an undetermined non-profit. If you would like to know more about the Rock Harbor Village Bike Bash, send an email here. Otherwise, we should have additional details as the week rolls forward.
Remember, the venue is located at the parking lot adjacent to the bike trail and the Scajaquada Creek (57 Tonawanda - corner of Niagara Tonawanda). The times are from 2pm-8pm. Music and event schedule to be announced. James and his Ice Creamcycle will be there for a few hours to cool down the crowd. Plus Micropark Jay has just jumped onboard... he will be on hand to discuss developments with the future skate and bike park.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.

SOME people forget what the whole premise of this site is for...Gee Newell, help me out here. Could you put up your original opening article now and then? This site is suppose to be for the POSITIVE building up of Buffalo and it's believers. This is suppose to be a place where we can positively explore Buffalo's future possibilities and formulate dreams that we believe can come true! Dream people! The hell with the naysayers! I remind you again that the original builders of this great city found nothing here- NOTHING and look what they did!! You must ask yourself-Am I as brave as they were? Can I take what's left in front of me and be courageous enough to ignore those who dissuade me from fulfilling my dreams-this city's dream? If you love this city, have a dream for yourself and for us all-follow it and we all win!!! I never ever thought I would be brave enough to buy a big old house here. You, Buffalorising and it's promoters, gave me the courage to follow my dreams and this new homeowner is living it. Follow me people...Step up and do or sit down and shut up until you can. I'm just so tired of naysayers. It's like vinegar on an open wound especially when I'm in debt for the rest of my natural life to do my part as one citizen!
