Rowing Reports

Now that the rowboats are back on Hoyt Lake, it's interesting to see some of the added benefits that go along with the effort. For example, there is now a little snack table set up for people who want to take a row out on the lake. I spoke with the three attendants at the site yesterday (Bill Lewis, Ally Manley and Cliff Wadsworth) who told me that the snack selections have been a big success. And not just the rowers are making the purchases. Runners stop by to pick up bottled waters and families walk over to grab a bag of chips or a soda. There are even juice and granola bars available for the health nuts, and dog biscuits for their canine companions.
I asked the three if there were any fun stories revolving around the boats, and to my surprise I learned that there have been two wedding proposals made out on the lake thus far. The boats are, apparently, bringing people together in more ways than one. While I was taking photos of the last boat coming in for the day I noticed that the occupants were soaked to the bone. I guess boaters have learned to take cover under the bridge that leads over to the Japanese Gardens. From the looks of it, the two rowers in the photo didn't make it to bridge cover in time, but that didn't stop them from laughing about their 'pour' timing.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
