Spend Your Money Here: Help Independent Business

This afternoon at 3, in the Market Arcade Building at 617 Main Street, Buffalo First, Brian Reilly and dozens of small business owners will gather to unveil Buffalo’s very first, all-local coupon book.
The book features over 150 businesses from every neighborhood in Buffalo - businesses that are independently owned by residents of Western New York. In these tough economic times, independents need all the help they can get.
For a mere $10, purchasers have the opportunity for $2,500 in savings. In addition, the coupon book also features smart consumer tips that will help Buffalo make healthier and greener choices. There are also practical coupons for daily necessities such as groceries, clothing, and home supplies, as well as coupons for restaurants, theatres, coffee shops and galleries.
Books will be sold at over 80 retail locations starting today, and a complete list can be found at www.buffalofirst.org.
Popular favorites in the coupon book include Dipson Theatres, the Buffalo Chop House, the Buffalo Zoo, the Burchfield Penny Art Center, Talking Leaves Books, Pizza Plant, the Niagara Café and Flying Bison.
“The goal of the book is to keep more money in Buffalo," according to Amy Kedron, executive director of Buffalo First. "Every time we shop locally, three times more of our money is re-spent in Buffalo. This can really keep our neighborhoods strong as the national economy slows down.â€
The City of Buffalo helped promote the book along with the help of ten neighborhood and business associations from all over town including north, south, east and western parts of the City as well as suburbs such as Williamsville and Clarence. As a result, the book truly has something for everyone.
Buffalo First is a nonprofit that encourages local spending to keep more dollars in Buffalo, strengthen community ties and build a greener environment. It has over 200 members and works with over 15,000 local businesses nation-wide through the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies.

In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
