Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino Slot Numbers Are In

For the first time we can see what sort of numbers the slots are generating at the Buffalo Creek Casino. We can also see what those numbers are doing for the State of NY and the City of Buffalo. Of course, the temporary casino is generating nowhere near the numbers that its permanent counterparts in Niagara Falls and Allegany are bringing in. Here are the latest figures (based on first six months of operation):
The Seneca Nation is sending a total of $57 million (all casinos) in slot machine revenue to NYS. Of that amount, $2,833,211.48 was generated by the temporary Buffalo casino, and $700,000 from the total will make its way back to Buffalo.
Future projections estimate that once the $333 million permanent Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino complex is fully operational, moneys generated for the local economy will reach between $5 million to $7 million. Here’s the breakdown of $57,377,634.94 million total State payment:
Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel: $38,183,077.25
Seneca Allegany Casino & Hotel: $16,361,346.21
Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino: $2,833,211.48
*The Nation currently pays the State 22 percent of the “net drop” of the slot machines, which represents money dropped into the slot machines, after payout but before expense.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …

I hope that either way, the Seneca's won't be required by law to surrender to NYS 100% of the gaming proceeds collected after the date that the court ruled the site illegal, that is, while they would have been operating illegally.

2 million.. that could have been the GAP financing for the Graystone, 500 Block of Main, Genesee Block, Richardson Complex, Maybe a parking garage instead of another collection of lots around D'Youville..
That is the problem I see with this deal. Fine go.. gamble.. but it is such a shame that 2 million dollars is disappearing from our local economy. So for every 2.8 million we spend.. we get 700k back.. Sounds like one hell of a win! Go Casinos.

sbrof is right. Rather than give our money away, it would be nice to see that money being used for someting productive. Maybe those people playing the casinos could just donate their money to a good cause....100% would then stay in Buffalo. Lets also not forget to subtract from the 2 million all the extra costs associated with dealing with the complex. There is a lot of extra strain to account for.

i love the logic here..."So for every 2.8 million we spend.. we get 700k back.. Sounds like one hell of a win! Go Casinos".......what do you think entertainment is? Shouldnt chophouse be closed down for charging 3-4x the price for a steak i could have made at home? In that case for every 45 dollars i spend i get zero back since the owner does nothing but buy parking lots. This Entertainment is about getting people to come to our sad downtown. People arent going to spend their life savings at a casino unless they already are in the mindset where they would otherwise lose it to online gaming or at wilson farms or some other wasteful resource....I agree are deal is raw on this but most of the resonses to this are stupid. "2 million.. that could have been the GAP financing for the Graystone, 500 Block of Main, Genesee Block, Richardson Complex, Maybe a parking garage instead of another collection of lots around D'Youville.." riiiiiiight cuz you are about to send a check to any of these companies to get any of that done right? No, but we can fund it thru some of the revenue we are getting here, wish it was more, but its money the city isnt going to see at all otherwise unless people start getting the undying urge to donate money to random projects

I cannot believe that we allowed the poor to waste a combined $2.8 Million dollars. Where did they get this money if they are having trouble affording even the most basic of necessities and are getting squeezed in every way imaginable from inflated fuel and food prices.
I was sad to see the only pawn shop in the area of the casino close shop a few months ago. I guess that the casino hasn't taken away enough to start the unchecked looting and pawning of material possessions.
I am sure that we have seen an increase in Gambling Anonymous meetings in Buffalo. A search online shows only one meeting scheduled for August. Maybe a larger casino will result in larger problems.
Maybe Blackrocklifer would prefer to tell the poor how to spend their money, or just give them more to ensure that they can still survive even if they lose money at the casino. I am sure that the real answer is to just remove the temptation from them by closing the casino. As I have stated before, if we do this then we should shut down the bars that extract money from the poorest among us. I would also advocate for ending Bingo and the State Lottery, as they both extract money from the poorest among us in hapless games of chance.
We need to protect the poorest among us from themselves, I know that they will appreciate it!

You logic is way off. Why would anyone want to simply give money to save a building that they would have ZERO chance of seeing a return on outside of a better view. SaveTheLivery.com raise $1700.00 with all of the press. Just shows you how much people will donate out of pocket.
Here is how I see it. The casino will have two types of people. People who CAN afford to gamble and view it as entertainment and people who can NOT afford to gamble. With the latter, these people are really just putting back what is not theirs in the first place.
Taxes take from those who work
Given to those who do not work
Spent in a casino the allows people to work
% given back to the public so less taxes can be taken
In reality most of the money spent at the casino is coming from the rich so everyone needs to calm down. I would rather have the money go to the casino v. a corner store on Newports and 40/40. After all, it is MY money!

As a college student at UB who was born and raised in north buffalo, I cannot wait to get the hell out of this city when I get my degree. Its because of all you idots who are stuck in the 20th century that myself and countless others will leave or have left this city to go elsewhere. Who are you people to tell others how to spend the money THEY worked for? If we want to go to a casino and gamble some money then thats our business, not yours. This city has done nothing but go down while ive grown up here and then the chance comes for the city to come alive again and a bunch of old idiots has to ruine it for everyone else. If you guys dont like the people willing to invest in our city, then get the fu** out so the people who want these types of attractions can enjoy them. If you dont want to "throw" your money away at a casino, then stay home and watch golden girls instead of destroying every opportunity this city has to become a thriving again!

It seems like many of the previous posts assume that EVERYONE who spends money at the casino is poor. That is simply not true. There are plenty of people, with plenty of disposable income, who freely choose to spend their money this way. Why? Because they enjoy it. They see it as entertainment, and I don't see anything wrong with that.

"Why does NYS get all the$$ while the City gets such a pittance. What genius constructed that deal, what is it 25% of 25%."
This is a great question. After all, it's the city that will provide the bulk of the casino's customers, and the city will bare the brunt of any social impact, as well. So why does the state get any of this money? Their contribution to this project was to encourage a cynical ploy to get around the state constitution. Is that the kind of behavior that should be rewarded?

A few more questions while I'm at it:
1. What happens in 15 years when the agreement between the Senecas and the state ends? Is there any provision for either side to be able to renew the agreement, or renegotiate it? Or do the Senecas' commitments simply end?
2. If casino gambling is such a great deal, why the need to grant a monopoly to another nation?
3. If casino gambling is so great, why doesn't Albany -- which is dominated by downstate interests -- push for these casinos in NYC?

The deal is not the best....everyone would agree on that. Now do the math on 25% of ZERO!
It is not like they need instruction videos on how to use the slots. People in Buffalo already have1st hand knowledge in Fort Erie and NF (US and Canada).... The numbers can be changed for a better formula.
What I simply find funny is the uppity tools find so much "danger" in the casino for the poor but outside of the casino they do next to nothing to help them in the other vices that cause damage.

Italyan hit a home run. Sorry to see you go. We need more people like you in Buffalo.
And for those who think that money is "disappering" from Buffalo at the casino, doesn't it disapper when you shop at the mall? Those department stores and chain stores are owned by international conglomerates who manufacture their goods overseas. The only people who beneift are the retail workers (who happen to get paid less than the casino employees get paid).
So from now on, I am only buying my clothes from seamstresses in Buffalo. I am only buying my produce from Western NY farmers. I will only go to locally produced theater. I will not go to the movies because no movies are produced in Buffalo. Restaurants? Will never step foot into a chain again. Will not buy a car that does not use American Axle parts. All these businesses are stealing our money and weakening our economy. Everyone - buy Buffalo only!!!! And certainly don't go the Seneca casino. Smart people like me need to tell dumb people like you what to do and what not to do with your money.

I would never gamble. I don't think it's fun, so it is stupid for me to lose money at something that I don't enjoy. But who the hell am I or anybody to pass judgement on others who do think it is fun? Yes, there are addicted gamblers, but the vast majority of gamblers just have a great time if they win, and a good time if they lose (but not too much). And that's fine with me.

Colin, Mayor Giuliani pushed for a casino in NYC some years ago when I lived there but Manhattan residents were highly opposed to it and it never became a possibility. I remember a gambling boat based off Sheepshead Bay, but I don't know if it is still in operation.
I just hope the Buffalo casino issue can be resolved one way or another quickly so BRO can move on to other topics. There hasn't been anything new raised in any of these casino comments and the petty verbal attacks are discouraging.

Question: I have a group of capital investors interested in opening a business in downtown Buffalo. They have looked at the local business climate and have decided they would like to open a casino.
They think that there is a market to compete with the one existing casino in Buffalo. After all, last year that casino in an engineered metal building took in almost $13 million after payout on slot machines alone. It looks like a great business. They will only have to give NYS 22% of that income for 15 years. No property taxes, business taxes or sales taxes. Plus they keep 100% from the other casino games and operations.
They believe that their business will add to the development mix in rejuvenating downtown. And they will be creating jobs.
They just don’t know who to contact in State and local government to open the business or what permits are required. Can any reader help direct them to the proper departments?

Until the US wants to right the countless wrongs, people with the argument of private sector casinos need to STFU or lobby the state to allow it for anyone. I would love Trump to come to town as well.

The big question on everyones mind should be what the city is going to do with the money from the slots
Will it put the money into the general fund used to pay for albanys unfunded mandates, local union demands and of course patronage/buracracy/benefits
or
Will it put the money into an off budget account to invest in the city, its infrastructure, its brownfield remediation, streets, sewars, water mains, street lights, sidewalks, curbs, urban industrial/office parks, infill residential, facade repair tomajor historical buildings like the science museum, extend the light rail, reactivate the beltway, etc.

ok I have to vent again to all the idiots that dont know anything. First off they are expecting about 5-7 million for the city of buffalo in which it can use for projects to get done, plus help pay for things like union contracts that go up every year in which you same people complain about so that they dont have to raise taxes to keep up with them. Second lets look at raplh wilson. How much money does erie country get for all the parking and other things that happen at RWS??????? ZERO!!!!!!!!!!! and its paid for by the tax payer go figure great deal there to huh??????? Third even though i dont plan on going there the Brass pro is coming and it has a 20 yr contract in which it doesnt pay taxes either. Should we throw them out also??????? I dont have a problem with them because they are apiece of the puzzle also. Maybe we should shut down all the churches across erie county because they dont pay taxes either and from what i am seeing lately they dont even look like churches anymore and more like a businees now????????? So maybe they can start paying 22% of there money also because they also have Bingo (omg its gambling) in a church in which GOD is suppose to be totally against??????????? Maybe the Bingo needs to pay 22% of there money to taxes and then the poor people that go to bingo wont have to waste there school supply money, that they spend there, hoping to win 250 dollars or going home and telling there children they cant eat tonight because of the bingo at the church. I go to the casino and i can tell that all the people on here that are against it havent ever gone, because if they did then they would relaize that 95% of the people there can afford to go and spend money and not worry about it. i have also gone to Bingo at a church and a firehall and i can tell you that the people that go there cant afford to play they just do hoping to win so they can have extra money but i dont see anybody on here to worried about those people that the churches are stealing moneyfrom, and now cant buy school supplies as the better people for buffalo have said??????? The casino is only a piece of the pie for Buffalo and people like myself go there for fun and if i lose so be it i leave and go back another day. If i win great i keep that money and use it next time i go so i pretty much break even all year when its all sad and done. i only do it for fun and most people there like myself do it for the sam reason. Yes you are going to get people there that cant afford it, but you will get people that go to bars, resturants, football games, hockey games and etc that cant afford it too. Should we just cancel everything so there is nothing to do in Buffalo at all, so people dont spend money????? Get real people.

Under the Compact, the Seneca's must pay the State the net slot revenue. It is then up to the State to send a percentage to the host community, however, the State is not legally obligated under the Compact to do so.

After all the Bills are paid, the Casino profits stay in Western New York. Each Seneca (based on Maternal lineage) get a dividend The SGC has aleady invested some of those profits in a Championship Golf Course in Lewiston (on the Tax rolls) , and setting up a foundation at Childrens Hospital for Juvenile Diabetes. Once they have completed Buffalo Creek, I would not be suprised to see more local (on the tax roll) investment in the area. In addition they are getting ready to make another significant investment at their NF site.
How much of the net Profits from WAL_Mart or any other retailer stay in WNY.. none, unless you hold shares in the company.

I, like most people, will loosely budget a certain amount of money towards entertainment. That money might be spent on a couple nights out in a month, a day at Darien Lake, or several small entertainment themed expenditures throughout the month. I am by no means affluent, but I recognize the need to mix a little play in with the work. Should I decide that I would like to go to a casino, I will do so. If not locally, then I will budget it out a little and go to Las Vegas, I don’t really care. I will not be spending my entertainment funds on philanthropic causes for the betterment of Buffalo (that is what the philanthropic budget funds are for (double good luck if an event touches on both)). Where would you like me and others like me to spend our money? I can assure you that Las Vegas will not be sending Buffalo a check any time soon…

I applied for financial aid and wasnt given a penny bc they said 23k was too much money and since I dont have a kid they feel I make enough to pay rent, school, student loans, tranportation, gas, bills, food, etc. Basically, its ok for them to take MY money but when the time came to return the favor so I can better myself by going to school, they werent interested in giving me any of THEY'RE money. Well im not interested in paying a federal tax anymore, so can I deny them just like they denied me financial aid for school? Id much rather spend SOME money having fun at a casino after a 40 hour work week and full-time school then just pay the govt for them allowing me to live in poverty in a city going NOWHERE filled people stuck in the past, what a privelege! im taking this to washington, maybe i can stop the feds from stealing my money... ill keep you all posted...
