The Falafel Bar Opens In Allentown
The Falafel Bar opened today in Allentown. We made our way over to check it out around 11:30 and were very excited to see a steady stream of people walking in and out. The lunch experience was perfect in the fact that there are forty seats in the simple, clean and bright setting. We love their other spot on Elmwood, but it's pretty jam-packed in there most of the time. Between the expansive front windows and the oversized kitchen, I have a feeling that this place is going to become an overnight sensation.
I spoke to a couple of business owners on the block who told me that they were beyond happy to have the Falafel Bar hit Allentown. The added foot traffic will give the entire business community a major boost. And the restaurant presentation will also be a huge asset. As we finished our meal we commented on the lively conversation that rose above the Middle Eastern music - I don't think that The Falafel Bar could have asked for a better opening day lunch crowd. At this point forty seats might not be enough considering there were close to thirty already occupied and more people were walking in.
The Falafel Bar will soon be open at 69 Allen Street. 716-882-2680

The Wait is Almost Over - BR's New Site

A Kennedy Visits Buffalo
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.

Downtown Free Fare Zone May be Axed
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Congratulations Falafel Bar and Allentown, as commerce creeps ever so slowly east down Allen Street, one can only imagine the impact as commerce and employment base collide at the intersection of Allen Street and Main through to the 8,000+ employees on the Medical Campus via the Allen Street Extension.
One could imagine a transit oriented development which encourages a large number of employees arriving to the medical campus via a combination of train, bus and foot power and finally the disconnect that is Main Street is bridged and VOILA!!! the eastern end of Allen Street is happening with life, commerce and leisure. Currently, it stinks of ashes and piss along the Red Jacket and various houses of ill repute. Someday may be here sooner than we think!
