The Falafel Bar Plans To Open In Allentown

Back in July of '05 The Falafel Bar opened on Elmwood Avenue. Since that time, the restaurant has garnered quite a following of food fans. Now the restaurant is opening a second location in Allentown. We had been hearing the rumors for a while, and finally the business has landed a location. As of April 1st, the Falafel Bar will be taking over the Palm Tree Restaurant space located at 69 Allen Street. There is no word whether the Palm Tree will be re-opening elsewhere. From my original Falafel Bar post in '05:
You can add The Falafel Bar to Elmwood's list of Mediterranean restaurants. This quaint little eatery (formerly Edrito's, and Pano's before that) is very homey, and the food really is splendid. Owner and Executive Chef, Oded Rauvenpoor, has turned this infamous location on Elmwood into a colorful oasis with a brand new patio replete with umbrellas, cozy dining area, and an extensive menu aimed at pleasing just about everyone. The dishes are quite remarkable as is the overall atmosphere. The portions are rather large, so if you are going to order an appetizer, you just might end up taking your dinner home with you. The home-cooked authentic food ranges from hummus and tabouli to baba ganoush and lebaneh.
The size of the Allentown business looks like it will be a bit bigger than the one on Elmwood. I would imagine that Allentowners would gravitate to the Falafel Bar due to the healthy food options. In recent months Clover Management (owners and operators of the majority of buildings on Allen between Main and Delaware) has managed to attract some excellent local businesses since the sad loss of NEO Gifts. NEO re-opened on Elmwood this past summer. Rick's Bike and East End Salon are currently in the process of moving into the former NEO space.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …

a 3rd location right? I thought there was a 2nd location already in Amherst, on Sheridan Drive....

When I'm in Buffalo, I always make it a priority to stop at the location on Elmwood. I think the quality of their middle eastern menu is some of the best I've had anywhere in the country. Congratulations.

Better street lighting? Maybe more of them, but pleae don't change out the type they have. Its the only district that has more unique lights vs. the 30foot light standards everywhere else. I personally would love to see elmwood with ~15 foot ornate style lights from allentown to Buff State. Think bidwell parkway style. There is no need to for those gigantic ugly light standards.

Good food at Falafel. I see others agree as they are able to open new locations. It is cool that locally owned restaurants can find a nitch in the community and expand locally.

Yes, this is the third location! The other is on Sheridan in Amherst. I love the EV one and love their food in general, so I'm happy to see another in the city.

Good business move! Open second location close to first in another trendy neighborhood and take away the landlord's inevitable business strategy: " So your business is doing well, and I need to double your rent, so you can pay me now or give up all that you have worked for". I'm tired of cool mom and pop business being pushed off of Elmwood due to greedy landlords. The City needs to harass these guys for causing vacant store fronts. How long has the resturant been vacant at Forest and Elmwood? like 3 years. Simply pitiful.

Great news for Allen Street East! That area is really picking up. Compliments the Virginia Place corridor nicely.

Allah be praised! Now we Allentowners can walk to get some good fallafel. It's a winner all around and a nice complement to the other eateries in the immediate area.

I was just looking at that picture above.. Considering none of the businesses in that building have signage above the windows, wouldn't it be nice if they had similar signage to what was done on the North Park Theatre building on Hertel so that people walking down the street could see what business was down at the other end of the block without having to walk there and peer at the windows for some sign in order to find out.
