The FMC Hosts Free Event At Kleinhans

An exciting and free event will be held in Livingston Hall at Kleinhans on April 2nd from 10am-4pm. This event is being held by the Future of Music Coalition (FMC), who partnered with the American Federation of Musicians Local 92, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and other community groups, to bring about a seminar called: “What’s The Future For Musicians?â€
FMC is a national non-profit that deals with the issues at the intersection of music, technology, policy, and law. This daylong event features presenters with a wide range of experience who will be discussing the issues that FMC helps musicians with all the time. Some of the topical issues to be discussed are promotion and distribution, access to media outlets such as radio, compensation in the digital age, and the importance of open Internet structures.
The check-in begins at 9:30am and after a brief welcoming, the day begins. The afternoon should provide a unique opportunity to sit with other musicians and have discussions on the issues they face after listening to presentations with a lot of expertise. The afternoon has two breakout sessions led by peer-experts that will feature roundtable discussions on the topics covered.
The FMC does ask that people interested in attending RSVP, which you can do here or they can call the American Federation of Musicians Local 92 at 716-842-6466. You can also check out a full event schedule here and with a couple of clicks, you can also see the event schedule for the presentations being held by the FMC in Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany.

In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
