Time To Clean House: Losman Leads the Way

Even though I did not make it to J.P. Losman’s 'Buffalo Lives' clean-up event (yesterday) I did track someone down that did go. Housing Court Judge Henry Nowak spent his afternoon this past Labor Day Saturday cleaning up Broderick Park and talking to hundreds of other community activists and Bills’ supporters. Henry was not only surprised to see the number of people that showed up, he was thrilled at how well the event came together. After the event he gathered together with people who had spent the better part of the day cleaning parts of the city that they were not at all familiar with. He told me that there were people cleaning up at Broderick Park who had no idea that the park even existed. “They kept commenting on how nice the park was,” Henry told me. “Everybody came back to City Hall and there was a big party there. It was great to see.”
It has become clear that J.P. is not just dedicated to the game of football, he appears to be dedicated to the city he is currently living in. For a football player to take time off from a Holiday weekend shows his community where his priorities are. “J.P. Losman could have supported any number of great causes,” Henry said. “But he focused his energy on enhancing our neighborhoods. All of us who are determined to strengthen our city must seize the opportunity to carry his momentum by doing all of the little things that improve our quality of life – cleaning up our streets, joining block clubs and reporting concerns. His efforts deserve our gratitude and inspire us to continue to shine as the City of Good Neighbors. I’m a fan for life now.”
Henry also wanted to make sure that Oswaldo Mestre (Head of the Dept. of Citizen Services) and Tom Smith (Deputy Director) were acknowledged for the role they played in putting the event together. “It was so well organized and says a lot for their department and their spirit,” added Henry. “It was a fine-tuned event.”

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …

A professsional athlete 'getting his hands dirty' in the central city, snd mobilizing so many to 'take ownership' of the city, is indeed positive.
Is there a way to reach JP, both to thank him & to suggest that he consider a larger initiative to have everybody pick up litter everyday?
He is in a unique position to change a culture that makes it "uncool" to stoop over & pick up a bottle, can or other trash while walking down the street.
JP's role modelling has special importance for youth, who too often are chronic litterers. His likeness on litter baskets with a tricky slogan, perhaps, "TOSS IT HERE FOR JP!" could geometrically expand the cleanup into a daily event.
GO BILLS!

Breeze245, I added a link in the above post to his Buffalo Lives website. If you bookmark it I am sure that it will update soon. Also, there is a sign-up field that you should probably enter your email into for future event notifications.

I'm excited to see the sincere consern for our city, as a whole, from one of our sports leaders. There are always foundations created by sports figures that are important and impactful to certain causes. This one, created by JP Losman, is a tremendous effort that encompasses every life in our great city. Thanks, JP!
Also, you have to hand it to Hank Nowak. He's quite a strong figure in government, but he also gave of his time as a volunteer to this great cause. Thanks, Hank!
