Two Blades At A Crossroad
While biking down North Street yesterday I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this 'wide load' heading my way. At first I thought it was some sort of water tower. Then I thought it might be an art instillation... or an airplane. Finally I realized that it was one of the windmills heading off to Steel Winds along the waterfront. So if they were heading to Steel Winds, what on earth were they doing heading North on Delaware and then taking a right onto North Street. I mean, this corner is not exactly made for extra wide turning maneuvers.
What was really incredible was discovering that the windmill was actually just two of the blades, not the tower. It was amazing - to see these blades so close was a spectacle. Traffic was at a standstill as the driver and crew stepped out of the vehicle to analyze the situation. The blades sat there for a good twenty minutes (at least) before I finally left the scene. Gawkers stood along Delaware asking what the cargo was... honestly, at close proximity it was tough to tell. BRO contributor, Al Labruna, told me that there were at least four shipments so far. His photo, taken from a high, of the last shipment (to date) follows.
