WNY Women's Fund Supported By Sabres

Tomorrow night from 5:30pm-8pm there is an exciting event being held by the WNY Women’s Fund at the 100 Level of the Harbour Club at HSBC Arena. The event is being held in cooperation with the Buffalo Sabres to support the fund. Women and girls age five and above will get to try on Sabres equipment, learn hockey moves, and go through agility tests with Sabres Forward Paul Gaustad, Sabres alumni, scouts and coaches as onlookers.
The fund is a collaborative effort between the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo and the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County. It provides grants to local community programs to help women and girls develop self-reliance and to help them become economically self-sufficient. To further help support the fund, the Sabres will also be selling autographed hats on March 10th when they play the New York Rangers.
The WNY Women’s Fund was founded in 1999 and according to their website, since 2002 they have awarded over $200,000 and raised $1.6 million in endowment gifts, operational support and program funds. Statistics on their website indicate that Buffalo has 30% of families living in poverty and that 40% of those families have women as the heads of the household. The fund was established to reflect that number and to help support women and girls in need.
Tickets are $100 for women over the age of 18, and $50 for girls ages 5-18. Tickets are available till 3pm tomorrow, and according to Trina Steinhart, a volunteer for the fund, around 30 tickets are still available. To order tickets you can call (716) 887-2621 or visit their website for more information and the registration form.

Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
