Yahoo! Travel Ranking

Yahoo! Travel Ranking

Story Options

Where do you go (on the web) if you want to find out about a city that you may not be familiar with? There are plenty of online forums out there, but if you're looking for a site with a reputable name... look no further than Yahoo!. I decided to scope out what exactly people were saying about Buffalo, so I spent a little time browsing through the various pages of comments. Apparently the people that have taken the time to write up the reviews favor Buffalo as a great place to visit (and live). The Yahoo! ranking gave Buffalo four and a half stars (out of five).

Convenience and value were almost flawless in the eyes of the contributors, and atmosphere and safety were right up there to. The last entry turned out to be one posted just yesterday (no, not from me)... and even though the majority of people that posted had great things to say, of course there were a couple who were happy that they got out before the city imploded upon itself. Hopefully Yahoo!'s name will help to [dissipate] some of the misconceptions out there about the city. I'll leave you with this comment from someone in Freeport, NY:

Buffalo, NY is a great city full of high quality arts and culture without all the hustle and bustle. It's good for all groups; families, singles, young and old. There is an array of things to do for people with any interest. It is definitely a hidden gem. It is not the place to go find a beach, but with everything else around you won't need to!

Now we just gotta keep working on that beach thing...

Newell - thanks for that website. It is interesting to see people's different perspectives (and misspellings) of Buffalo.

"Most of the people are friendly, but be careful where you go. There are also some seriously unfriendly people there, who are trapped in a a non-progressive oblivious time-warp."

May cool posts, but this kind of summed it up for me......

"Convenience and value"? right, plenty of affordable parking in beautiful Buffalo. It's Thruway-close and Toronto-convenient.

And whatever happened to the beach replenishment project along Love Canal? Did a Nor'easter wipe it out?

QueensEyes, Do you want the Yahoo site to "disseminate" misconceptions about Buffalo, or perhaps "dissipate" misconceptions about Buffalo? I think the rest of the country's mass media has very effectively "disseminated" said misconceptions! Jokes about Buffalo abound...

Only a couple of negative reviews, lots of great comments about the people, and big endorsements about the food, except they didn't mention ----------.

Q> "Where do you go (on the web) if you want to find out about a city that you may not be familiar with?"

A> Ebay ! No better indication of a city and its people than the inventory of architectural elements looted and pillaged by bottom feeding opportunists masquerading as 'antique dealers' and "architectural salvagers".

I don't understand all the negativity surrounding this post. I personally never go to Yahoo, and it is always interesting to see what people who are not from the area might have had to say about their visit. What better way to improve our city than to listen to those who don't know how to deal with the one way streets, without the preconception of east and west. I think we can learn a lot about what it is going to take to create a better city for ourselves and our visitors from these kinds of ratings and posts and to be very honest I am amazed that we got the ranking that we did.

I see tourists downtown all the time, some look Japanese, some look European, for some reason or another they were drawn to our city. Knowing what they likes and didn't like, what was or wasn't easy are important things for any city to know.

allthingsbflo - People can think whatever they want until they come to Buffalo. When people come to Buffalo is the only time they can make an informed opinion of the place. It appears that when people actually come to visit Buffalo, Buffalo leaves a very good impression on people.

pundit - I didn't even know Yahoo Travel exisited until this post!

The only outside opinions re: Buffalo that truly matter are the ones held by people and businesses who are interested in locating/relocating here.
